Page 277 The World Trade Organization (WTO) is an international global institution that deals with the rules of trade among nations. The WTO states that all of its decisions “are made by member governments” and that its rules “are the outcome of negotiations among members.” The Council of Canadians is a citizens’ watchdog organization whose goals are to safeguard social programs; to promote economic justice, democracy, and Canadian sovereignty; and to preserve the environment. The Council does research and sponsors national campaigns to put some of Canada’s most important issues into the spotlight, including issues about Canada’s relationship with the WTO. Page 278 The Junior Team Canada Program is designed to provide Canadian young people with hands-on international business training through real life situations. This Program is supported by Global Vision, a not-for-profit organization that was set up to help young Canadians prepare for future careers in international business. Page 285 The Government of Canada Web site has links to government federal departments, agencies, and Crown Corporations. Agencies include the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency, the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency, and the Pest Managements Regulatory Agency.
