Page 92 Schoolnet's GrassRoots, Collaborative Learning Projects for the Internet are sponsored by Industry Canada and the Conference Board of Canada. The goal of the projects is to equip Canadian young people with the knowledge and skills that they will need if they are going to succeed in the knowledge economy. “Building Innovative Capacity in the Classroom” includes programs designed and implemented by teachers and students. Page 97 Strategis Canada, which is sponsored by Industry Canada, calls itself “Canada's Business and Consumer Site.” This very large site contains information on a wide range of business subjects, including reports on rationalization in the pharmaceutical, health services, petroleum products, electricity, and retailing industries. Page 99 The W. Edwards Deming Institute is a nonprofit organization founded to foster understanding of Dr. Deming's ideas. The Institute's Web site has a biography of Deming along with a collection of his articles and teachings. Page 101 The National Quality Institute (NQI) is a not-for-profit organization that helps other Canadian organizations improve the productivity, quality standards, and healthiness of their workplaces. NQI members include IBM Canada, Canada Post, Sun Life of Canada, Health Canada, Human Resources Development Canada, and the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business. Page 102 The Standards Council of Canada is a federal Crown corporation that promotes efficient and effective standardization. While the Council does not actually set standards, it accredits the organizations that set standards in Canada, approves National Standards of Canada, represents Canada in international standards forums, and serves as a source for information about Canadian standards. The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is the source of ISO 9000 and more than 13 700 International Standards for business, government, and society. The organization is made up of national standards institutes from 145 countries. The ISO Web site has lists of their products and services, explanations of what ISO designations mean and how standards are developed, and descriptions of the communities and markets that use ISO services. Page 105, Country Link The Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT) Web site has information on current Canada-Vietnam relations, a Business Guide for Canadian Companies that want to do business in Vietnam, listings of major Canadian imports from, and exports to, Vietnam, as well as links to regularly updated travel advisories and to the addresses and details on the Canadian embassy in Hanoi and the consulate in Ho Chi Minh City.
